Empire TV Show Pilot Episode —

Lucious Lyon, head of Empire Records finds out that he has been diagnosed with ALS and is only given three years to live. He decides to put Empire on the New York Stock Market. Lucious also decides to start grooming one of his sons Andre, Jamal and Hakeem as a successor.

Meanwhile, Lucious’ ex-wife Cookie is released from jail after 17 years and wants half of Empire. Lucious can’t meet Cookie’s demands as Empire has grown since Cookie went to jail. Cookie is furious so Lucious promises her anything she wants, but Cookie wants to be head of A&R however, Lucious’ girlfriend is already head of A&R.

When Cookie goes to Hakeem’s he blocks her out and calls her a bitch which leads Cookie to beat him. When Lucious and Hakeem meet at Lavitacus, Hakeem agrees that Cookie is crazy.

Lucious has a talk with Jamal about his sexuality and business. Jamal gets angry when his dad acts like a homophobe and it leads to a flashback when Jamal was a kid and wore heels. Lucious, furious takes Jamal and takes him to presumably beat him and Cookie follows screaming at Lucious. It is later revealed that Lucious threw Jamal in the trash.

We then learn that Andre has bipolar disorder and him and his wife plot an idea on how Andre could inherit the company. Andre later stops by Cookie’s new apartment and the two reconcile.
