Your Digital Footprint – Does It Properly Represent Your Brand

foot print redHere we are in 2014, surrounded by the buzz of social media.  We know the younger generation gets most of their information via the web and streaming.  Traditional outlets are on their way out.  So much so, that even seniors in age-restricted communities have started Yahoo groups to connect on a regular basis.  Grandparents have Facebook and Twitter accounts to keep in touch with their grandchildren.  In fact, they have even mastered the ability to Skype.  Bottom line — Social media has gone viral.

A July 2012 article from NBC News stated that the US spent 121 billion minutes on social media sites that month, which they averaged to 388 minutes or 6 ½ hours per person.

Truth be told, if we want to spread our message and stay connected to the masses, then our best option is social media.  If you are not on a blog, have a website, or are part of a group, then you are living under a rock.

Viral media is upon us and we must participate to stay in the know and connected.  If we are marketing a personal brand, product, or our business and services — we need to, even if reluctantly, put our foot in this pool since that is where our customers, bloggers, and influencer can be reached.

But …  BEWARE!

Know that every time you post something you are leaving your “digital footprint”.

Here are 3 rules, no matter what your age or agenda, to remember before you hit “post”.

  •  Keep in mind that EVERYTHING you post represents your Personal Brand
  •  NEVER post when angry
  •  Know that you can NEVER remove your digital footprint – at least not completely!

So before you jump into this pool, remember to; step lightly, courteously, professionally, and thoughtfully.  Doing this, will insure that your digital footprint won’t come back to kick you in your assets.
